Savage Avengers #2: Let Me Tell You of the Days of High Adventure

Writer Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Deodato have been knocking it out of the park with Savage Avengers. In Issue #2, we learn that The Hand has teamed up with the evil wizards of the Hyborian Age to summon a death god from a celestial hell. Continuing the story as set up in issue 1, Conan the Barbarian and Wolverine are traveling separately around the Savage Lands after bring brought their by the evil sorcerery of Kulan Gath. Kulan seeks to call a Great Old One from beyond the orbit of Pluto. Towards that end, he must fill a huge Earthen bowl with the blood of those who spill the blood of others. Therefore, he has enacted magic which brings to him some of the most legendary killers of their age which is why Wolverine and Conan have been summoned across space and time to the Savage Lands.

Of course, those two are not the easiest of people to sacrifice. Both repel Kulan, who must seek an new initiate in a Nazi Luftwaffe pilot plucked from World War 2. Most of the comic is spent in bloody battle, but Wolverine manages to do a bit of dark sorcery himself by bringing a formerly sacrificed friend back to life by inserting the still beating heart of someone recently slain. And Conan discovers a dark secret squirming in a genie bottle. This comic is again, quite gory, which I love.

In the last couple of pages, The Punisher is brought into the Savage Lands. It seems Kulan has perhaps bitten off more than he can chew. There’s plenty of Conan, Wolverine, Punisher and Voodoo action throughout. Watch my video below for an in-depth review of this exciting comic!
