Hey guys, going forward, a lot of my upcoming videos (not all mind you) will be about finales, endings, last stories, and so on. Starting these off, tonight I’ll be talking about Neil Gaiman’s handling of Batman’s final story and it’s very meta. This “last ever” Batman story is ambitious, bidding goodbye to several, if not all, iterations of the Caped Crusader. I’m not entirely convinced that it totally succeeds, but it makes a great effort.
Batman is already dead! And we are watching his funeral! We see all his friends, family, and even his enemies are coming out of the wood work. They start to tell tales of how Batman died. But the strangest thing is that each and every story are radically different. One involves Catwoman killing him in a way similar to how Robin Hood died. Alfred tells how he and his acting buddies were Batman’s villains (Alfred was Joker!), etc, etc.
What’s going on here? And who is that mysterious voice talking with him? Come and see how Gaiman and and Andy Kubert shut the door on the Caped Crusader.
