There are many superhero and comic book podcasts out there for you to listen to, but I’d like to make the case for you to check out a new one called We Understood That Reference. This podcast is hosted by Clayburn Griffin & Nikhil Kasbekar, two friends from New York City who have made a point of watching most superhero movies together on opening weekend and chatting about them afterward. Nikhil is a comic book nerd with a particular love for Spider-Man, while Clayburn is strictly a movie guy. The different perspectives make for great conversation on all things superhero-related, making the podcast an enjoyable listen for hardcore comic book fans and casual movie goers alike.
In fact, their second episode specifically talked about casual MCU viewing, looking at how Marvel’s slew of movies would be experienced by casual fans vs the more serious ones. Their first episode covered the character of Black Widow, whose standalone film has been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The outbreak itself largely motivated the creation of the podcast in the first place giving Clayburn & Nikhil to continue their normal conversation about superhero movies through this time where superhero movies are in short supply.
However, the podcast doesn’t focus only on Marvel films. The guys have talked about several DC properties too, including the upcoming and contentious Snyder Cut of Justice League as well as the great but often overlooked Shazam!
So if you’re into superhero movies and comic book stuff in general, you’ll enjoy this podcast. The hosts are active on social media as well, live-tweeting through some of SDCC’s recent Comic-Con@Home panels and will be providing commentary during DC’s upcoming FanDome too. You can jump into the conversation with them directly on Twitter or Facebook. Take a listen to the podcast on their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or Google Podcasts. They’re all over the place!
