‘Wonder Woman’ Helmer Patty Jenkins to Direct Next Star Wars Feature Film

Patty Jenkins will direct a new Star Wars movie, titled Rogue Squadron, it was announced during Thursday’s Disney Investor Conference.

It’s slated for Christmas 2023, and is set to follow pilots across the Star Wars universe.

The news makes Jenkins the first woman to direct a Star Wars feature film; Victoria Mahoney was the first woman on a Star Wars directing team, serving as second unit director on The Rise of Skywalker.

Jenkins’ next film, Wonder Woman 1984, will debut on HBO Max and in theaters this Christmas Day.

The comic book series ‘Rogue Squadron’ was written by Michael A. Stackpole and Mike Baron for Dark Horse Comics, with art from Allen Nunis. The series was originally conceived as a limited series, only for its popularity to allow it to run for more than 30 issues. Stackpole would then go on to explore the concept further in a book series.

When asked if Lucasfilm or Disney had reached out to inform the writers of the comic of their plans, Mike Baron replied that Disney “had not contacted him.”
