Patton Oswalt Cancels Venues That Refuse to Mandate Vaccines for Audience

Actor and alleged comedian Patton Oswalt has announced via Instagram that he is cancelling gigs in Florida and Utah after a few of the venues there refused his demands that all audience members must prove they’ve received the coronavirus vaccine. Patton Oswalt remarked in an Instagram post that the venues in question lack “sanity” when it comes to the pandemic.

“The good news is we’re keeping everyone who comes to these shows safe and healthy because the numbers are going up,” Patton claims. “Now the bad news, of course, is there are five venues on the tour that are not complying with this.”

He continued: “This difficult decision was made due to the rising numbers of COVID cases and also because I have an ego, but my ego is not big enough to think that people should die to hear my stupid comedy. So hopefully, hopefully, in the future we can rebook those when sanity holds sway again. But this sucks, I was really looking forward to Florida, to Salt Lake City.”

Florida is one of the few states in America that have expressly prohibited vaccine passports, with Governor Ron DeSantis (R) stating that he does not want to establish “two classes of citizens.” Utah has only partially prohibited vaccine passports, preventing the state government from requiring the injection while letting private enterprises to make their own decisions.

Related Foo Fighters, Springsteen & Other Concerts Requiring Vaccination

Vaccination requirements for live performance have become a lightning rod problem among performers. Rockers such as Eric Clapton and Richard Ashcroft have spoken out against the vaccine, and Bruce Springsteen is asking confirmation of complete immunization for all ticket holders to his  Springsteen on Broadway musical in New York.

Washed up New York shock jock Howard Stern ripped into opponents of the COVID-19 vaccine who have reasonably argued that people should not be forced to get the shot, as this is a matter of personal freedom. This did not sit well with Stern, however.

“Fuck them. Fuck their freedom. I want my freedom to live,” Stern said. “I want to get out of the house. I want to go next door and play chess. I want to go take some pictures. This is bullshit.”

Fuck you, Howard and fuck you Patton, and anyone else that demands I take a shot to be entertained by them.

I'm not as much of a "CoMiCs NeEd MoAr DiVeRsItY & iNcLuSiOn" advocate as my girlfriend often is, but we both love funny books, crispy bacon, straight bourbon and hip hop. Add yet, we never vote the same, so we cancel each other out... and that works perfectly in my book!
