Deadline reports a Game of Thrones stage production is in the early stages of development from producers Simon Painter and Tim Lawson, with the play being written and adapted by Duncan MacMillan working alongside author George R.R. Martin. UK director Dominic Cooke is set to direct.
“The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace. Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring. It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire… and now, at last, we can tell the whole story… on the stage,” Martin said in a statement.
The play will be set during what the production is calling “a pivotal moment in the history of the series,” and will feature many of the well-known characters from the series. Producers hope to stage the Game of Thrones play in 2023 on Broadway, the West End and in Australia.
