Jerry Bruckheimer Provides Sobering Update on ‘Top Gun 3’ Progress

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has overseen the Top Gun franchise from its inception, has revealed some depressing details regarding a possible sequel to Top Gun: Maverick. After the 2022 film reintroduced the blockbuster concept to theaters in the post-COVID-19 age and received some Academy Award nominations, many expected a third picture to be produced soon to capitalize on the trend. But it appears that Top Gun 3 will take a little longer to arrive.

According to Deadline, Bruckheimer is presently marketing Sony Pictures’ sequel Bad Boys: Ride or Die, as well as another nostalgia-driven film, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. When questioned about a new Top Gun movie, he provided the following update:

“We’ve got some interesting ideas we’ve talked to Tom Cruise about, but we don’t even have a script yet. It will be a while.

Plans for a sequel to the monster hit starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell are still in the works, but Bruckheimer has other priorities right now, and the decision to continue with the franchise is not his alone. Cruise is unquestionably the film’s most important character, and he will also play a role in deciding the future of Top Gun.

Maverick struck an exciting mix between the nostalgia-fueled phenomena of a sequel and the introduction of fresh characters. Audiences identified with Maverick’s main storyline, and as exciting as it is to see Tom Cruise do his thing, the film also represented the worth of a good legacy and how it may pave the path for him to carry the torch to the next generation.
