Disney+ Hosting LGBTQ Drag Queen Pride Concert Aimed at Kids

Disney+ will hold an LGBTQ Pride event aimed towards children, starring drag queen Nina West, and featuring performances of iconic Disney songs reimagined with LGBTQ themes. Kermit the Frog, as well as pop sensations Hayley Kiyoko and Todrick Hall, will perform in Disney+’s This Is Me: Pride Celebration Spectacular, which will be streamed on YouTube and Facebook on June 27. Gender-fluid vocalist Alex Newell and gender non-binary performer Jesse James Keitel will also perform. Jackie Cox, another drag queen, is also scheduled to perform at the show. (Both West and Cox are of RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni.)

According to Deadline, the virtual concert will comprise performances of well-known Disney songs reinterpreted through an LGBTQ+ lens. It is unknown which songs will be performed at the show.

In honor of Pride Month, Disney+ is highlighting LGBTQ-themed programming.  The event is designed to promote awareness of GLSEN, an LGBTQ youth advocacy group formed by former Obama administration official Kevin Jennings. The short film The Little Prince(ss), about a gender nonconforming child, was just released on the streaming site. As Breitbart News reported earlier this month, a lesbian kiss occurred between two high school characters in the upcoming comedy series Big Shots, starring John Stamos.

Will concerned parents, fundamentalist Muslims or Christians find this type of content objectionable enough to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions?
