‘Cowboy Bebop’ Creator Trashes Netflix’s Live Action Adaptation

The recent Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop was not well received by fans. Most believed the live-action series strayed too far away from its anime classic source material. Turns out the creator of the anime series agreed.

Shinichiro Watanabe told Forbes: “It started with a scene in a casino, which made it very tough for me to continue. I stopped there, and so only saw that opening scene. It was clearly not Cowboy Bebop, and I realized at that point that if I wasn’t involved, it would not be Cowboy Bebop. I felt that maybe I should have done this. Although the value of the original anime is somehow far higher now.”

Three Reasons the Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Was Doomed from the Start

Watanabe had been brought on as a consultant by Netflix but believes that his notes were not heeded by the streaming service. The live-action series was mercifully canceled after one season.
