Ava DuVernay Teases More About Her Kirby Inspired New Gods Film

One of Warner Bros.’ upcoming movies based on DC Comics that they hope has great potential for the DCEU is their adaptation of Jack Kirby’s The New Gods saga, to be helmed by filmmaker Ava DuVernay, who has previously made the Oscar-nominated Selma and A Wrinkle in Time. We haven’t had much confidence in this hiring decision here, noting that her last film was a box office bomb for Disney, and she is frequently a strident and provocative firebrand with some of her hottakes. Nonetheless, WB is moving forward with DuVernay at the helm of one of their most beloved, albeit quirky properties.

Recently, when a fan on Twitter implored DuVernay to give some update on New Gods, she obliged with the reveal of an obscure but interesting character from the movie’s script.

“Because you asked so nicely… working on the fourth draft of a scene featuring All Widow this week. xo,” DuVernay tweeted.

The All-Widow mentioned by Ava DuVernay in her tweet is an obscure character from the comics, a resident of New Genesis who is known as the Queen of Bugs, a race of humanoid insects. The inclusion of the character hints at how deeply the filmmaker has researched The King’s comics mythology that she intends to bring to the big screen, which will be welcome news for fans.

In the past, DeVernay had also stated that Darkseid will definitely be making an appearance in the film, along with the Female Furies that serve as his deadly enforcers.
