Watch: ‘The Boys’ SXSW Trailer Offers Our First Real Look at Season 3

Prime Video dropped the first trailer for season three of The Boys while at SXSW. The video gives us or first look at the newly powered up Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as well as newcomers Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess. The trailer is a REDBAND, meaning for mature audiences, but then again anyone familiar with the series knows that it’s not for the young or faint of heart.

In a minor coincidental twist, the song in the trailer is called Bones by the band Imagine Dragons. “Bones” is also the nickname of another character Urban plays, Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy on the Kelvin Crew Star Trek films with Urban and the rest of the cast being announced recently to be returning for a fourth film.

The new season of The Boys comes hot on the heels of animated spin-off seriesThe Boys Presents Diabolical, and after wrapping back in September 2021 following an extended shooting schedule that was hit by the Covid pandemic. Showrunner Eric Kripke has spoken about the new season being the craziest so far, and that is something that seems to be definitely on the cards. In June last year he teased:

“Without giving away any spoilers, I was just in editing yesterday, and we’re doing something here in the Season 3 premiere that is not only I think the craziest thing we’ve ever done, it’s got to be up there with the craziest thing anyone’s ever done. Maybe it won’t work. Who knows? But I’m just so high on this gag that we’re pulling off. And it’s certainly something nobody has ever seen before, probably for good reason. So all that’s really exciting.”

Homelander actor Antony Starr recently talked about how much he has enjoyed filming the new episodes, and he teased a real step up again in season 3. He previously said:

“[Season 3] is hands down one of the most enjoyable seasons of TV I’ve had the good fortune of being involved with! I had a great time on Season 2, and I thought we did something really cool there where we took it next-level in many ways from Season 1, and really, it’s just the extension of that. I’m always curious to see what the writers, what these crazy people, are going to cook up, and it’s a pretty great feeling in Season 3 to still be surprised and excited every time you turn a page in the material. All I can say is I truly believe the fans are going to freak out at Season 3.”

Season 3 of The Boys will be released on June 3rd on Prime Video. The Boys Presents Diabolical and the first two seasons of the flagship show are both available to stream now.

I'm not as much of a "CoMiCs NeEd MoAr DiVeRsItY & iNcLuSiOn" advocate as my girlfriend often is, but we both love funny books, crispy bacon, straight bourbon and hip hop. Add yet, we never vote the same, so we cancel each other out... and that works perfectly in my book!
