While not giving too much away, James Gunn has hinted at five characters that will be joining the new DCU in the future. How this came about started with an IGN poll asking their readers which characters they wanted in the new live-action universe and the top 10 results were in order from least to most:
10. John Constantine
9. Mister Freeze
8. Court of Owls
7. Zatanna
6. Red Hood,
5. Deathstroke
4. Brainiac
3. Lobo
2. Martian Manhunter
1. Nightwing
This story was posted by the Instagram account @jamesgunnnews and the writer/director responded with: “Will 5 of 10 do?”
With the already announced line-up of projects you could see how many of these characters could fit in. Nightwing and Red Hood into The Brave and the Bold since it takes place with Damien Wayne as Robin, then two previous Robins being around makes sense. If Superman: Legacy uses the Man of Tomorrow animated film as inspiration, it featured both Martian Manhunter and Lobo… and you could easily swap in Brainiac. Constantine makes sense to show up in Swamp Thing and The Batman 2 could easily use Mr. Freeze or the Court of Owls.
There’s also been a lot of chatter on the Internet about what fans perceived as the potential ages for the new Superman and Batman in the upcoming DCU headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The impression that fans have gotten is that Superman is going to be in his mid to early twenties while Batman will be closer to forties since he’s going to have a son around ten-years-old. At this point, neither actor has been cast and the speculation is a lot of reading between the lines of things that aren’t there.
Well, you can throw all of those rumors out as Gunn has tweeted: “All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman.”
Yeah but people are speculating about both ages. All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman.

A lot of this talk comes from fans of the Snyderverse and who wish Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck would remain in the roles. Cavill is 39 years old right now and Affleck is 50 years old, not the ages Gunn wants to start his 10-year plan with.
Whatever the case, it sure is nice to see James Gunn tweeting about comic book movie rumors rather than making pedophile jokes.
