Idris Elba’s New Movie ‘Beast’ Apparently Caused Serious Tension at Home

Would you rather battle a lion or your angry daughter? That’s kind of what Idris Elba had to deal with on his new film Beast. While the actor and the film’s producer Will Packer were on The Breakfast Club, Elba talked about the awkward situation he had to live through after his daughter Isan didn’t get cast in the movie.

“Interestingly enough, my daughter auditioned for this role. She wants to be an actress and she auditioned, and it came down to chemistry in the end. The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was, the chemistry wasn’t right for film, weirdly enough.” Packer spoke of the process: “He auditioned with her [and] he was very tough on her. [Elba] said, ‘Listen, at the end of the day we’re going to make the best decision for the movie. I trust you, Will, trust the director,’ and she was very good, very close. Some of the nuances of that real-life relationship sometimes doesn’t translate on screen.”

For her part, Isan was very gracious about the process and accompanied her father to the premier… but she didn’t speak to him for the first three weeks after not getting the role.
