HBO’s ‘The Penguin’ Series Recasting One of The Batman’s Villains in Key Role

Cameras will begin rolling on The Penguin next year, and details are out about the show’s cast. While the HBO Max series will primarily focus on Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot, it was recently reported that a clash with Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, and her family, is likely to be at the heart of the story.

Oz hopes to rule over Gotham City’s underworld in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death, but he may face another challenger in Salvatore Maroni.

It’s said that The Batman spin-off is looking to cast an actor in his 60s to play the character, though Maroni obviously appeared in that movie as well. An unnamed extra lent his likeness to the mobster in newspaper clippings; however, he clearly won’t be returning as Warner Bros. looks to cast an experienced actor in the role.

Maroni was set up to take a fall by Falcone, so chances are he’ll see Carmine’s death as a sign that now is a good time to try and rise back up the ranks and regain what he lost.

The Penguin is expected to premiere on HBO Max in 2024.
