Every Major Character Confirmed for Spider-Man 3

Every Major Character Confirmed for Spider-Man 3

One of the major motion pictures in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is going to be Jon Watts’ Spider-Man 3, the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Tom Holland reprising his role of the titular superhero.

The Internet has been full of speculation about this film, especially after the enormous success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the announcement that the DCEU is planning a major crossover event in the upcoming Flash movie.

These speculations were further fueled by gossip suggesting that Spider-Man 3 is going to be a major crossover event that is going to feature characters from previous iterations of the Spider-Man movie franchise

Today, we know that that is indeed going to be the case, which is why we have decided to bring you an official list of all the confirmed characters and actors that are set to appear in Spider-Man 3, as of December 24, 2020.

There are a lot of rumors circulating around the Internet even today, which is why we expect further additions to the cast, but we’ll update the list as soon as we have official confirmations.

The Spider-Men

Spider-Man 3 is going to be the first Spider-Man-related movie to feature more than one Spider-Man and more than one actor in the role. Here are the confirmed Spider-Man set to appear in the movie:

Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man

The original MCU version of the character that appeared in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, as well as in other MCU movies as per the deal between Marvel Studios and Sony.

And that’s it… you were expecting more, right? Well, despite the heavy speculation and the news around the internet, neither IMDb nor Wikipedia actually confirm the return of either Andrew Garfield (the version from The Amazing Spider-Man) or Tobey Maguire (the original Spider-Man).

These actors are heavily rumored to be returning and most reliable new sources confirm that, but until a fully reliable source adds them to the cast, we cannot call it fully official. But, expect that to happen anytime soon.

Other MCU characters

This section is going to include other MCU characters that are confirmed to make an appearance in the movie:

1. Zendaya as Michelle (MJ)

Peter Parker’s school colleague and later girlfriend, known for her sarcastic attitude and witty remarks. Zendaya was one of the first cast members announced for this movie.

2. Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds

Peter Parker’s best friend from school and the first one to discover that he is Spider-Man. This is Batalon’s third appearance in the series.

3. Marisa Tomei as May Parker

Peter Parker’s aunt and caretaker. Marisa Tomei also reprises her role from the earlier movies, where she appeared in a secondary role.

4. Tony Revolori as Eugene “Flash” Thompson

Peter Parker’s school colleague known for bullying in school and for being his rival. Revolori also reprises his role from the earlier movies, just like the others.

5. Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange

One of the protagonists of the MCU, a very powerful wizard superhero that has appeared in a solo movie, as well as in several larger movies within the MCU. Due to Doctor Strange’s powers, it is heavily speculated that he will play a large role in the crossover that is going to happen in this movie.

Other Confirmed characters

This is a list of confirmed characters that are set to appear in the movie, although they have not previously been a part of the MCU:

1. Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro

One of Spider-Man’s best-known enemies. Electro is a tradesman who becomes a supervillain after an accident that gives him electric powers. Foxx played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where he faced off against Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man; his return further fueled gossip regarding Garfield’s return. It is known that Electro is not going to don his blue look from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

2. Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus (Doc Oc)

Probably Spider-Man’s biggest rival. Doctor Octopus is a supervillain that got his powers thanks to the four mechanical arms he carries on his back, which are controlled via artificial intelligence.

Molina also reprises his role from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, where he was portrayed as a tragic figure, despite being the main villain of the movie. Molina’s return also fueled speculation regarding Maguire’s return in Spider-Man 3.

And that concludes our list of confirmed characters. We know, we know… you’ve read it on the Internet, but as we’ve said – neither Wikipedia nor IMDb, which can be considered truly reliable sources (unlike the media), have confirmed anyone else, so until that happens, we are just going to list them as possible returns.

Possibly returning characters

This is going to include a list of all the characters that are said to be returning, but have not been officially confirmed:

1. Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Reprising his role from The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. And while we are still waiting for that official confirmation, Garfield’s character seems like a certain return to the franchise and this is why we have put his name first on the list.

2. Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Reprising his role from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy of films. While there were reports of Maguire being reluctant to come back, the return of Alfred Molina and rumors of a costume fitting session make this a very certain thing.

3. J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson

After a short but shocking return during a post-credit scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home, we can certainly expect to see J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson again in the MCU. He even teased us a bit with it in an interview with EW. Also, it doesn’t make sense they would only use him in that one scene. We just don’t have any confirmation yet.

4. Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson

Reprising her role from Sam Raimi’s films, where she played the love interest of Maguire’s Spider-Man. This is a highly probable return, but we do not have any official information about it, except this rumor

5. Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil

Reprising his role from the hit television series of the same name. After Daredevil was canceled, fans have been petitioning for the return of Cox’s blind attorney/superhero character, especially since Disney reacquired the rights to the characters. This would be a great way to bring back Daredevil into the MCU and these rumors seem quite plausible to us.

6. Thomas Hayden Church as Flint Marko/Sandman and Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin

Both villains from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Although it would be nice to see both of them, this seems both like overkill and a stretch, because both of their characters are dead. But, the rumors are there, so we’ll definitely follow up on this.

7. Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck/Mysterio and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin

Another pair of supervillains. Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio is an MCU villain, so it wouldn’t really surprise us if he were to reprise his role, but DeHaan’s character died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so we’re not that sure about him. The source that reported this is not always reliable, but we’ll still be following up on these rumors.

8. Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy (or Spider-Gwen?)

The role she played in The Amazing Spider-Man series, alongside Garfield’s version of the character. Stone’s character dies in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the rumors about her are quite confusing, ranging from her reprising her initial role, to returning as Spider-Gwen, to – as the newest rumors state – being completely written out of the script. So here… your guess is as good as ours.

And could Venom show up? Did I miss anyone or any rumors that are out there? Sound off in the comments below!
