Disney+ Developing Kong Live Action Series Separate from Monsterverse

Disney+ is developing a live action King Kong series, according to Deadline.

A King Kong series is in early development that will focus on the origin story of the famous ape. The first ever live-action series set in the Kong universe will be coming from James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company and written by Paper Girls creator Stephany Folsom. It will be based on both the original Merian C. Cooper books and a new King Kong novelization by Joe DeVito. The idea being a modern-day action-adventure series that will return to Skull Island and focus on the mythology behind the iconic creature.

The rights to King Kong are complicated with the project coming from DeVito ArtWorks and is separate from Legendary/Warner Bros Monsterverse that just uses Kong as the creature’s moniker.
