By mid-week, Avatar: The Way of Water will pass The Avengers and enter into the top 10 highest grossing movies ever in the U.S./Canada. The film has made another $15.7 million this past weekend taking it to $620.5 million domestically and on track to pass the Avengers which is sitting at $623.3 million.
The sequel still sits atop the box office and will likely stay there another week with only the horror/thriller Consecration with a chance to bump it off until February 17th when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premieres. While a few new films broke into the top 10, with the Indian spy pic Pathaan getting as high as fifth place with $5.95 million.
Puss in Boots 2 continues to grab the family money with another $10.6 million take in second while Tom Hank’s A Man Called Otto is in third with $6.75 million. Horror fans are still liking M3GAN after four weeks as it took in $6.37 million for fourth place. Eighth through eleventh place were also new films with Left Behind: Rise… making $2.97 million, Infinity Pool making $2.72 million, Wandering Earth II making $1.355 million and the Billie Eilish concert taking in $1.29 million in the one-night only event
