One of the people excited about the announcement of more Lord of the Rings movies is Gollum/Smeagle himself, Andy Serkis. The actor/director spoke on BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast with Eric Italiano about the possibility of returning to the franchise.
“Look, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens are sort of a second family that I have become part of and have gone on to make so many films with, and — let me tell you — they are the best and most incredible people to work with. I think that there are so many other potential Middle-earth projects which could come about, and if they’re doing them, I would, of course, jump at the chance to have that relationship rekindled. Middle-Earth has never left me.”
Serkis became synonymous with motion-capture work after his turn on the Tolkien movies and eventually moved into directing along with taking on recent non-CGI characters like Alfred in The Batman and Kino Loy in Star Wars: Andor. Warner Bros new deal does not conflict with Amazon Studios’ deal for The Rings of Power series.
