Hide the Kids! An UPDATED #NSFW Edition of Indie Comics Showcase

UPDATED!

Welcome to a bonus, special edition of Indie Comics Showcase. We showcase indie comics that are being self-published or are currently crowdfunding. And while we tend to feature more mainstream offerings, there are several projects that aren’t exactly what you could consider “all-ages” appropriate. So, for today’s installment I want to cover some of those #NSFW (not safe for work) Indie Comics. The reason I am doing it so soon is because time is running out for one of the campaigns. I am also uncertain as to when I will be able to cover something in this genre of the same caliber, because the truth is that most of the more… adult offerings leave a LOT to be desired in terms of the quality of the work.

Let’s dive in! The first comic being showcased today is Infinite Punishment #1 Shadows of War from Spotti Entertainment.

Infinite Punishment #1 Shadows of War  is the story of Lilith, a succubus, who after enduring eons of torment and torture at the hands of  her creator, Decipher, she finds a way to escape. With her new found freedom, she vows to take revenge on the cruel bastard, for everything he put her through. First she has to put together a team, a rather peculiar one at that, to return to hell and torment the Devil. What is really interesting about this project is, It looks like the writer is doing something different with the mythology.

A succubus is a demon in female form, or supernatural entity in folklore (traced back to medieval legend), that appears in dreams and takes the form of a woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual activity. The male counterpart is the incubus. Religious traditions hold that repeated sexual activity with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health or mental state, or even death.

In modern representations, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress; whereas, in the past, succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic.

While the writing on Infinite Punishment #1 Shadows of War could probably use a little bit more editing. The art more than makes up for it. The campaign is now fully funded, but there are still a lot of really cool stretch goals to unlock, and only 7 days to do it. So join Lilith and her friends as they journey to  slay The Devil on KickStarter today!

Ahoey Mateys! Gather round and listen to the tale of the fairest and most feared Pirate Captain that has ever sailed The Seven Seas. Arrrr!! This be the tale of Pirate Captain Redd Velvette. It be a tale of love and woe, desertion and treason, but most of all, it be a tale of beauty and adventure.

Redd Velvette#4. As the title states, is the fourth issue in the series. It also serves as the conclusion to the first arc. Arrr, If ye not be familiar with the tale of the Pirate Captain Redd Velvette and her companion Lass, fret not for the first three issues are available digitally on Comixology.

Additionally, if you want the nude variants of the first three issues, simply add $30.00 to your pledge. This applies to all pledges in this campaign.

If you want to see more of Joe’s work check out his instagram.

Redd Velvette is a project that I am in complete and total awe of. Redd Velvette has been Joe’s passion project for years. He is the writer, artist, and letterer on it. And as you can see it is absolutely incredible. The art style and quality is very reminiscent to that of Disney/ Pixar, as is the writing. Joe is a fantastic artist and an incredible story teller. Redd Velvette is his finest work yet. I’m still waiting to hear from Joe about there being a Graphic Novel for those who can’t afford to get all four issues. When I have the answer I will either update the article or post it on my twitter account @indie_comics. In the meantime, you can get the print copy of issue #4 for $8 and add $24 to that pledge to include issues 1, 2, and 3!

Now don’t be bilge rat, follow the map until you find where X marks the spot and claim your booty, of Booty. Fear not my friends, for there be no Traps…

Doll House #1 by Shade is the final project I will be covering in this article. It’s not so much a comic, rather it’s a pin-up magazine in the vein of Penthouse or Hustler.

Only it features characters from Shade’s original comic series; Dangerous Curves, a superhuman modeling agency tasked with protecting the world from super-serious threats too big for the police and military to handle. and MAVRIX, an all-female school for superhumans which doubles as a paramilitary mercenary group.

The quality of Shade’s artwork as well as the characters in his stories, just really caught my attention. I also think Dollhouse #1 is a really interesting project, one that I hope does well and other artist see it and think, hey maybe I should do something like that. They don’t even have to be lewd or contain adult content. Imagine if you will, the guys from Rags Zombie doing something similar in scale to Dollhouse #1 but of course featuring Regina and other characters for their book.

Blue Mamba is a Special Late Addition to Tonight’s article. I was initially going to save it for next week’s Bonus article, as it fits with the theme that article as well. But, in discussion with the projects creator, Jim Healis @BlueMambaComic on twitter, there is a lot of #NSFW content in Blue Mamba.

Blue Mamba follows Clarissa, a former Marine who while struggling to build the kind of life she wants for her Wife Echo and her, she is recruited by a crooked politician into a sort of Assassins Guild. The  politician is smooth talking. He points out how her natural talents made her the perfect candidate for the program. He then starts talking about the benefits of membership. After a brief moment of trepidation, Clarissa is convinced and joins the program. When Clarissa isn’t working on an assignment, either taking out a small community leader, or dismantling foreign governments. She spends time with   Echo. They train together, sleep together, and everything in between. Then she has to go right back to work. Clarissa is able to execute each mission with passion and precision. Everything is fine, she starts to love what she does. Until one day, while on assignment, clues and events start to unfold which point to signs that she may be part of something bigger.

In issue one you get a 23-page story picking up with Clarissa as she begins on a series of targets that leads her down a path toward powerful people, with powerful agendas. Clarissa uses every skill she has to take out her targets, including shameless seduction and brutal precision.

From what I have been able to gather, Blue Mamba is very reminiscent of Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact. if you are not familiar with Point of Impact you might be familiar with Shooter, the 2007 film adaptation that starred Mark Wahlberg and Michael Peña. or the Series that is currently streaming on Netflix. Only in this case instead of Mark and Michael, we have to incredibly beautiful and well written, well developed females leads.

The book and project are unfinished but from what is available I can see that. The writing and concept from creator Jim Healis is very solid and the art by Ale Garza is just is gorgeous. The lettering from Tom Napolitano is crisp and unobtrusive. So if you want to Join Clarissa and see just how far the rabbit hole of Sexpionage and Political Intrigue go. Check out the campaign on IndieGogo here.

So I thank you all for joining me on this exploration of not entirely safe for work indie comics. If you like what you have seen and read, please check out my previous installments of Indie Comics Showcase, and please do come back. Next week I will be showcasing three more very different comics, but similar to tonight’s installment, they will correspond to the theme of the article. As you saw, tonight’s theme was #NSFW.

Next week’s will be a surprise.

Earlier this week in Indie Comics Showcase #3 I featured Jon Schnepp Go Fund Me. The information as to what happened to Jon was released publicly and I can now share it here. According to his partner Holly, Jon suffered a catastrophic stroke. Apart from that, his condition remains the same. Everyone is keeping hope alive. Jon’s medical bills are piling up fast. If you are able to, please donate to his go fund me here or you can send Holly donations directly through Paypal.

Once again, I would like to say thank you and hope you will all come back for the next issue of Indie Comics Showcase! Until then, I’ll see you on Twitter.

Friends I have some very sad news to report. After this article was submitted I discovered that Schnepp has passed away. I really can’t say much more on the matter, at least not yet.
