Starting with Afterlife With Archie, the Archie Horror line became one of the Sub brands that helped breath new life into Archie’s popularity along with the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Unfortunately, both books have run on a “It’s done when it’s done” publishing schedule, and now both seem to be on indefinite hiatus. But in response to the success of both books, two other titles came out focusing on two other supporting Archie characters, Jughead The Hunger and Vampironica! Both are now in a mini series where the two must battle! There is a third title out now, Blossom 666, but we’re not discussing that here.
In Jughead the Hunger, the ever-hungry Jughead Jones finds out his family tree has a terrible secret! They’re all secretly werewolves! And soon, he will become one of them…but being the good hearted guy that he is, he doesn’t want to kill people for food. Unfortunately, he finds he doesn’t have a choice as he’s stuck in a war between his family…and that of his friend Betty Cooper whose family tree has hunted the Jones down for centuries (and her ‘girl next door’ persona has all been an act)! Poor Archie, his friends, and everyone in Riverdale’s lives will never be the same again!
In Vampironica, Veronica Lodge comes home one day to find her parents bitten by a vampire who then bites her! She escapes, and with help of resident genius Dilton, fights her blood thirst. Veronica decides to fight back and bring peace to Riverdale and hopefully restore herself and everyone involved back to normal!
Which leads us to the main title featured, Jughead The Hunger vs Vampironica… this mini-series has just begun, but it resolves some plot points in Vampironica before leading into the crossover that was bound to happen!
