George R.R. Martin’s Marvel Fan Letter (1963)

Being a fan can spark the creative process in everyone and possibly lead to wholly new and inspired work. Take for example Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin.

Way back in 1963, a 15-year-old George R. R. Martin sent in a fan letter to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to Marvel Comics demonstrating his own pure and deep love for the medium. It’s the kind of thing that inspires creative types to keep creating. Open Culture ran this story earlier, and it’s one of those perfect reminders that there is a fan in everyone.

Check out the letter:

A wonderful example of how inspiration can fuel a young person into a great career of their own. Thank you Jack and Stan.
