Was Rian Johnson Working “Closely” With Benioff & Weiss, or Not?

“Don’t stand so close to me…”

Back in April 2019, The Wrap reported:

Rian Johnson and ‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners Working ‘Very Closely’ on Future ‘Star Wars’ Films

Rian Johnson and “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working “very closely” together on their respective installments of the announced “Star Wars” films, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said Saturday.

But then on October 28th 2019, The Hollywood Reporter wrote this:

The pair were set to write and produce the Dec. 16, 2022, Star Wars film, the first to come after this year’s Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, as well as the rest of the titles in a new series set to stand separately from one that The Last Jedi filmmaker Rian Johnson is working on, as well as the so-called Skywalker Saga, the nine-film series which began with 1977’s Star Wars and wraps up with J.J. Abrams’ Rise in December.

So which is it?

Did B & W work “very closely” with Rian, or did they work “separately?”
