Well, unfortunately that’s exactly what proceeded to happen under JJ Abrams.

So he would never presume to question anything George Lucas says is canon.  Except for the Sequel Trilogy treatments that he wrote completely over. But George ain’t seen nothing yet.  Wait till he gets a load of Project Gobbledygook.
