Acclaimed Comic Pro Peter David Schools Bill Maher

Peter David is an Eisner Award winning writer of a ton of great books and comics. Peter Allen David, often abbreviated PAD, has written comic books, novels, television, films and video games, but it’s his incredible, award-winning 12-year run on The Incredible Hulk that made me a permanent fan. Other comic fans might be familiar with his runs on Aquaman, Young Justice, Supergirl, Fallen Angel, Spider-Man 2099 and X-Factor or possibly his Star Trek comics or novels. David is a respected writer and has earned multiple awards for his work, an Eisner, a Wizard Fan Award, a GLAAD media award, and several other notable honors.

However, as a conservative and a supporter of the current U.S. President, Mr. David and I frequently do not see eye to eye on most socio-economic policies or debates. In fact, many creatives in the entertainment industry hate the President along with my conservative/libertarian politics, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy their creative work. Thankfully, Mr. David isn’t such a hack ideologue that he can’t be even-handed in his writing, at least what I’ve read of his work. Heck, PAD hasn’t even blocked me on Twitter, yet!

But one thing we used to disagree on was I thought Bill Maher was an irrelevant, pompous, asshole. I didn’t need Maher to rip on comic book fans or Stan Lee last year to convince me. I was initially a fan of his ‘Politically Incorrect’ show, because I had been a fan of George Carlin and thought Bill might be his successor, but that turned out not to be the case at all. Bill Maher is simply unfunny, insulting, liberal jerk.

Well, after Maher decided to double down on mocking comic book fans on the season premiere of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher,’ I think perhaps Peter David and I may finally agree about something. A little over a week ago PAD was promoting the premiere of the new season of Maher’s show via social media, but the next day he was walking back his support.

Peter then went on his Facebook to respond to Bill Maher’s ignorance in a glorious rant that I hope you’ll take the time to read in its entirety.

Well said, Peter David. Too bad your former co-worker, Joe Quesada doesn’t have the same level of integrity and grit. Such a pity to see him kissing Maher’s ass instead of defending the medium and the fans that have provided his over generous paycheck all these years. Groveling is such a bad look.

Thank you, Peter.

Stand up for comic books and the fandom next time, Joe.
